Day 4: Corvaro – Cartore
From Corvaro, leave the village and take the path that climbs to the Duchessa along a beautiful path through the beech forest, without difficulty, very wild but well marked, to the Duchessa Lake. From here you can descend to the valley, either to Cartore (via the Val di Fua or Prati di San Leonardo), or to Rosciolo (via the Val di Teve).
| Corvaro | 842 m |
| Cartore | 944 m |
| 15.3 km | 7 h |
| 1140 m | 1050 m |
Long variant through the Teve valley
- km 21.1
- height difference in ascent 1280 m
- height difference on descent 1200 m
When you reach Lago della Duchessa, you climb further up to 2100 m, then descend to Malopasso and Capo di Teve. You ride all the way through the beautiful Val di Teve, until you exit the valley. if you turn right, you will reach Cartore in about a kilometre. if you want to extend the stage by another 8 km, making it 29 km (be careful, it is very long) you can go directly to Rosciolo.
Loop variant from Cartore
There are two possibilities, an easier one of 12 km (ascent from Val di Fua and descent from Prati di San Leonardo) and one of 17 km (through Val di Teve), but much longer in height difference and only for experienced hikers. Both possibilities are described in detail in the book.
Third possibility (not described in the guidebook): from Cartore it is possible to make a variant off the Cammino, climbing Mount Velino (2489 m), sleeping at the Rifugio Sebastiani and returning by another path to Santa Maria in Valle, in two days' walking. A summer variant for very well-trained walkers who are well prepared to move along difficult, poorly marked paths. The terrain is high mountain, severe and airy. For this variant you must have a topographical map of Monte Velino, and follow the paths, trying not to lose them.
