Announcement of competition for sculpture on the path

As part of the Cammino dei Briganti project funded by the Abruzzo Region, the Cammino dei Briganti invites artists to apply for a competition for the installation of a public sculpture on the path. The competition consists of the conception of a work of art to be placed in a mountain area on the path itself. It can be a sculpture or an installation made of any material other than wood. Corten steel or iron is preferred.

Objective of the competition

The aim of the competition is to stimulate creativity and artistic dialogue through the creation of public sculptures.

Background information

Participants

The competition is open to all interested parties.

Duration

Until 15 October 2025

Installation location

The scenic area in the middle of the seventh stage of the Cammino dei Briganti, in the locality of Acquedotto CAM, municipality of Sante Marie. Place accessible by off-road vehicle.

Theme: Cammino dei Briganti

We would like the work to become as symbolic and iconic as the sculpture placed along the Camino de Santiago at Alto del Perdòn. This work created by sculptor José María Acuña has stood for more than 30 years and has become one of the symbolic places of the route. It depicts pilgrims of all ages marching towards Santiago. In the same way, we would like to imagine brigands becoming companions of today's wayfarers, showing them the way, or similar things.

The work must be designed to withstand the weather and the risk of vandalism, being placed in a public and unguarded place.

Conditions of participation

  • Sculptors from all backgrounds are invited to participate.
  • The value of the sculpture must be sustainable with project funds (maximum 9000 euro for supply and installation).
  • All materials are permitted, but iron or Corten steel is preferred.

Obligations of the organiser

  • Provide a guided tour of the place where the sculptures will be located, by prior arrangement.
  • Have the sculpture built by a local company, in agreement with the artist.
  • Provide the means for transporting and installing the sculpture at the designated place.
  • Provide a prize to be paid into the bank account of the winning artist upon completion of the work. The prize is EUR 700. There are no other contributions for the competing artists.
  • Ensure the presentation and promotion of the artwork to the public.
